Broker's Comments

"Regard" is a boat steeped in history. She was built in Brixham in 1933 by Uphams and was originally named “Our Boy”. Her first owner was an ex Grimsby trawler man with a liking for South African diamonds. In 1935 he had to make a run for it to escape capture by the South African authorities sailing from Table Bay to Penzance in 65 days. He was in such a hurry he left his wife and son to return by steamer!

Lord Stanley of Alderney purchased her in 1939 as he believed that Chamberlain was about to cave in to Hitler and he wanted a boat that could go anywhere for his escape. Since then she has had a number of owners and was renamed "Regard" in 1954. Tom Cunliffe skippered her at one stage and her current bow sprit was made by him.

In 1999 her current owners found her in a sorry state. They spent two hard years lovingly restoring her to her former glory. She is coded to MCA Code Two and is currently being operated as a Charter boat accommodating up to 6 guests for overnight trips and 12 for day sails. For sale as a going concern but would also suit as a private yacht. This really is an opportunity to buy yourself a piece of history.
