construction

GRP construction with semi-displacement underwater profile, gelcoat finish
Hiptimco trawlers were well ahead of their competition in quality of construction. The hull and deck are fiberglass with a teak deck overlay. The superstructure is fiberglass - nearly all other comparable manufacturers were building wood superstructures in this era. The saloon and cabin floors are supported by fiberglass - a great improvement over the wooden support structure used in many other boats. Even the window frames are fiberglass (with a teak trim), thus avoiding the dreaded "leaky teak" windows commonly found in Taiwanese-built trawlers of the era.

Up three steps from the aft cabin is the saloon. To port is a bench seat that converts to a single berth. To starboard is the L-shaped dinette convertible to a double berth. Forward of the dinette is the lower helm station and chart area that is currently used for a flatscreen TV. Across from the helm on the portside is the linear galley comprised of fridge/freezer combo, newer Force 10 propane stove/oven, microwave, dual sink and coffee maker. The saloon is accessed from the exterior by a companionway door on the portside between the bench seat and the galley or by the helm station door next to the lower helm.

Down from the saloon is the forward stateroom with V-berth, drawer storage, and access to the forward head. The forward head has a shower and electric toilet.

A single family has owned this boat since it was purchased new in 1977 - its remarkable condition is owed to faithful care and pride of ownership over the years.

This 40' Hiptimco Trawler is in immaculate condition, inside and out. The brightwork is exceptional - nearly every piece of trim is protected by a custom canvas cover. The interior brightwork shines like new, which gives the saloon and staterooms a light, airy feel. The exterior was repainted and varnished in 2007, but it looks like the work was done yesterday. The 120 HP naturally-aspirated Ford Lehman diesels look very clean and reportedly run perfectly. The engine room is clean and well organized. All of the wiring has been replaced and professionally installed and properly labeled. This 40' Hiptimco Trawler has been professionally and attentively maintained - it is in near showroom condition. If you are looking for a 40' Tricabin Trawler, view this Hiptimco to see for yourself how she is distinguished from the rest.
Recent investigation tells us why this is such a quality vessel. During the time of manufacturing these vessels, Cheoy Lee shipyard had a number of their craftsmen working for the Hiptimco yard. Thus one of the reasons for this outstanding vessel.
