Broker's Comments

Boatshed Norfolk are please to offer this amazing Bruce Roberts wave runner 45 Steel cruiser. This is an unusual boat in that Its build was started new in 1984 by Brian Chater and a steel and pipe company to be an offshore charter fishing vessel in north west England. Bruce Roberts steel boat designs are effectively steel kit self build vessels. Once complete the builder changed directions and the boat was sold new to the current owner who moved it to the broads by truck and placed it on his mooring. There it has stayed to this day and has been used as a liveaboard until his passing recently. The boat has not moved in that time but has been regularly run up and shows 1600 hours of engine time in that 40 years but actually never left the dock. When built the boat had a large generator also fitted that never had the electrical side connected up and that too has been run up from time to time but is effectively zero house use. In effect its an unused well built vessel that has engine time but never left the dock and was used as a home.
The boat is vast and would make a great cruiser or even more impressive and roomy liveaboard home. She is impressively wide and this is evident from anywhere you are on or in the vessel. the space is just amazing and the layout is comfortable and flexible with a good size double in the bow with its own vanity and basin plus ample storage, large heads and shower compartment to port, single cabin to port and a large galley down arrangement with full size fridge freezer electric hob, oven grill and microwave and loads of storage. Stepping up to the enormous saloon with integrated lower helm station lots of storage cupboards and fantastic visibility from the large windows. Out aft is a huge aft cockpit that is all teak laid with both side and stern access, and access ladder the capacious flybridge. The boat has to be seen to be appreciated in its true scale . Under the floor are twin Iveco diesel engines rated at 180hp each and they appear to start and run effortlessly. The bilge is clean and dry. It is to be advised that as these engines have only been doc run they should be serviced and have the rubber hoses replaced before use as rubber does deteriorate over time. The boat should be checked and perhaps some minor recommissioning work completed such as the engine service and hoses and generator connected up to the vessel if required to be used on rivers or sea etc as she has just been a dwelling in her time from build. Given all that that she is realistically offered as a light recommissioning vessel that is exceptionally well built, very well equipped and appears to be in very good order. She has no gas system aboard and was bult as all electric thus the large 7.8kva fitted generator. The company that built her specialized in stainless steel fabrication and I can honestly say I have never seen such high quality tanks and calorifier ever fitted to a boat! the scale and workmanship appears to be first rate and of ultra heavy duty construction. The hot water tank is huge for a boat! She is also fitted with 2 reverse cycle Cruise air air conditioning / heating units that will also need to be recommissioned and put into service as it is likely to need to be re gassed as they have never been used since the boat was built. This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a well built and specified vessel and is effetely lightly used and fully equipped example of these respected steel vessels. Her asking price reflects the recommissioning work that may be required.
I would estimate that it should cost no more that a couple of £K to recommission her to a fully serviceable condition, however a surveyor will be able to help quantify this more accurately. She would make a magnificent cruising boat or home at that point.
She has no BSC as she has been a liveaboard houseboat.
She was last out of the water and antifouled and new anodes fitted in 2022.

She has a large bathing platform (currently not fitted) and stainless steel davits and a full Bimini canopy for up on the flybridge.
Her teak work is substantial and her side decks are enormous with a solid and well built set of full side rails and bow rails. make no mistake this boat was built very solidly for the charter market and it shows everywhere you look.
Diesel warm air heating completes the package of this fine vessel

She would make a great charter fishing boat or dive boat as well as a cruiser or floating home and is a rare opportunity to find such a well specified example
