Broker's Comments

This is Eel !
Designed by George Holmes in 1896 and built by J.A.Akasters of Horsea in1897.
THIS is not a copy She is the real thing
A beautiful little canoe stern Gaff rigged Humber yawl in gorgeous condition, a piece of maritime history launched 28 years after the Cutty Sark and representing a major turning point in the design of small cruising yachts.
Has been obsessively restored by her present owner to the tune of £66,000 (all the invoices are included in the sale), from 2007-2013 the boat builder himself has known her since 1963
She is Larch planking on English Oak with Iroko topsides and a Douglas Fir main and mizzen she has Wilkinson sails .
This is the boat written about in Holmes on the Humber, there are also printouts from Classic boat and Yachting monthly going back to January 1915 about her trips. She is also written about in the Albert Strange Association (A good friend of George Holmes ) about a trip around the Baltic
When I first got this listing and started asking questions about a humber Yawl everyone connected with Boating immediately said "you mean the Eel" !!
She is a lovely shape and anybody with a love of classical wooden boats would be hard put not to fall in love with her on sight. The only modern detractions on the vessel are a Waeco battery charger and an electric outboard to make manouvering on and off her mooring easy.
The articles in the photo section are only a tiny example of all the documentation that comes with the vessel. which also includes a copy of Holmes on the Humber.
